Early in the nineties under the moniker “DJ Dimension”, Joseph Mercado began promoting his own dance parties with events held at various NYC clubs & bars. In turn these would lead to numerous DJ appearances spinning at renowned clubs as Octagon, Tatou, Roxy, Carbon & The Limelight. The DJ sets spanned musical styles; Funk, Disco, Hip Hop & rare groove. But Joseph consistently made sure that his brand of hard hitting; funky soulful, old school inspired style of House Music was represented on the turntables. By May of 1996 Joseph had gained a significant amount of recognition. So much so that he was invited to guest DJ on 89.1
FM, WNYU’s The Candy Store. The taping received rave reviews and helped to launch him to the next level of his quest.
By the mid-90s Joseph Mercado, influenced and inspired by producers and friends Mood II Swing, Henry Maldonado and William Rosario, now begins to set his sights on music production. His style though mostly house now incorporates a fusion of trance, drum n’ bass and funky breaks, creating a unique sound. His early works can be found on the BML label. Soon Joseph Mercado collaborates with William Rosario to form MegaMen Productions. Their distinct style was captured by the Strictly Rhythm label with their first project ‘Hands Up (What?)’ under the pseudonym Ghetto Stylez and again as a remix duo on the single ‘I Love You More’ by King Street recording artist Kimara Lovelace.
For the new millennium Joseph Mercado has help set trails ablaze through NYCs dance music scene. The veteran dj / producer team-as well as recording label owners (MegaMen Sounds) have captured the recognition and praise of top dj’s and producers such as; Todd Terry, Melvin Moore, Armand Van Helden, Mr V, Oscar P, Jovonn, Jeremias Santiago and Lord G. In addition, stations KISS FM and 89.1FM WNYU show their love by being major spin supporters of MegaMen tracks on their mixshows. During this time Joseph Mercado moved the feet of clubgoers with DJ sets at GBH @ Centro Fly NYC alongside the legendary Todd Terry during Media Music Expo 2002, at BillBoard Party 2002 alongside Barbara Tucker and at E-Man’s Bang the Party. MegaMen made their cable television debut at Winter Music Conference 2003 on Miami Florida’s The RooF (Mun2 Network).
In 2005, Joseph Mercado moved to Phoenix, Arizona then soon formed next dimension music. The decision to launch next dimension music arose fromva culmination of factors both in and outside the fickle industry. Joseph Mercado’s vision for a label was a design based on the 6 core elements in the label’s motto and the 4th factor; would be the foundation by which he attributes the labels success, leading to global exposure including licensing next dimension music product onto compilations for esteemed labels such as Nervous Records, Jockey Club Ibiza, Armada Music, Groove On, Wax n’ Soul, Big City Beats and most recently on Wetsuit Recordings continuing to actively staying on the pulse of how customers listen and purchase music. Joseph Mercado’s formula has set the stage for creative expression without limits or boundaries, allowing this music creator limitless possibilities and the opportunity to launch individualistic styles into the universe of sound, blasting off from the next dimension music platform.
Currently, Joseph Mercado is celebrating his labels 10th anniversary and continues to spread his brand of House Music sound on the decks spinning at top House Music events around the country as well at his monthly event Cosmic, leading the pack of new school House Heads, dj’ing along side the best local talent as well as sharing the decks with global talent such as Todd Terry, Doc Link, Aaron Ross, Eddie Amador, william Rosario, Marc Fairfield, Gene Hunt, Marc De Clive-Lowe and Charles Feelgood.
